The moon has been linked to crime, suicide, mental illness, disasters, accidents, birthrates, fertility, and werewolves, among other things. Some people even buy and sell stocks according to phases of the moon, a method probably as successful as many others. Numerous studies have tried to find lunar effects. So far, the studies have failed to establish much of interest.
Nevertheless we all feel the effects of the moon by the restlessness we feel three days before a strong Lunar phase takes place, especially a Full moon, New Moon and a Lunar eclipse. Why is this?
There are many theories regarding the Lunar effects on human behaviour. Here I mention some of them:
1.The frequencies emanating from the Moon affect the frequencies of the mental body, i.e. mind of human beings. By ‘mind’ we mean our feelings, emotions and desires.
2.The illumination or phase of the moon. The light of the moon is supposed to have subtle effects on our energetic or Auric bodies.
3.Gravitational pull over earths water and all its living creatures. After all our bodies are mostly water. This gravity affects the tides of the earths and menstrual cycles in women as well as sperm production in men.
4.In astrological interpretation the Moon, together with the Sun and the Ascendant, is one of the three most important features in the horoscope. As the celestial body that most obviously changes form during its cycle, the Moon symbolises the processes of growth and decay. In the horoscope the Moon stands for emotions, disposition and moods.
5. Mythology. In almost all cultures the Moon is related to the goddess and feminine principle. It is almost impossible to estimate the number of these goddesses, even more so in the light of the fact that different lunar phases are often associated with different goddesses. The oldest Greek goddess is Selene, whose two daughters were fathered by Zeus.
6. Influence on our dreams. The Moon symbolises the nocturnal “consciousness” as manifested in dreams, but also in the phase shortly before falling asleep. It also stands for the instincts and an individual’s need for emotional security.
Even though her influence is not tangible and scientifically proven we cannot deny the power of her presence in our lives. Who can deny her beauty? The chills we feel when we see the sphere of light rise from the darkness and travel our skies? The powerful dreams we face in the depths of our subconscious self?
Tonight is the only Lunar eclipse of 2010. Lets enjoy her magic and be drawn to her magnetism and to that which exists outside of our planet, inviting us to look towards the vastness of the universe.
